West Brook Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Tasting notes:
Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc – pungent aromatic taunts of passion fruit, crushed lime leaf, nettle and grapefruit; the palate embellished with notes of crushed blackcurrant leaf, fennel, spearmint and a hint of slate. The mid palate is broad and gentle, rising to the end with a crisp and tantalising finish.

Winemakers production notes:

Sourced from one intensively well managed block of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc .Dynamic viticulturist Melissa Sutherland wields her craft over the Wiffen family’s well established plantings in the clay loam Southern Valley soils of the Wairau Plains. The fruit was harvested in the cool early morning. Destemmed, crushed and pressed, with the free run and pressings fractions kept separate. The juice was then fermented with a variety of yeasts at several temperature ranges; in stainless steel tanks (so as to provide a more vibrant fruit driven element); and a portion (14%) fermented in well seasoned French oak barriques (this component of the final blend provides a gentle textural softness through the mid-palate) Classic crisp freshness is balanced by ripe fruit and herbal characteristics
