West Brook Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Tasting Notes:

Handpicked Marlborough Pinot Noir, delicately perfumed with layers of cherry wood, red berry fruits and florals. A lithe palate is traced with svelte tannins and delicate texture. Tight and brooding by nature, the earthen and savoury elements are framed with lingering freshness.
Winemakers Production notes:

Marlborough Pinot Noir was hand harvested in beautifully ripe conditions, in one day. Each of the blocks comprised different clonal material (the ‘Dijon clones’ 667, 115 and the classic 10/5) and soil types, all with different flavour and aroma profiles The whole bunch fruit was de-stemmed and crushed to open top fermenters. Innoculation was followed by hand-plunging four times per day initially, with the frequency dropping as alcoholic fermentation proceeded. The free-run wine went to a mixture of new and seasoned oak barriques, comprising different cooperages and forests, with the skins going to press where they were allowed to drain overnight before light pressing, and transfer to barrel. The wines underwent a natural malolactic fermentation over the Winter. Final blending resulted in an assemblage that revealed an elegant balance of oak and vibrant ripe red fruit characteristics. The wines were racked from barrel, settled and filtered with no fining.
